An off-the-shelf app is often the right first step: it is quick to start and its cost is clear. Problems begin when your team starts changing how it works just to fit the app.
Signs an off-the-shelf app is still enough
- Your workflow is close to the one the app provides.
- Exporting data now and then is enough for reports.
- Only a few people use it, and it is fine for everyone to see the same data.
Signs your process needs a custom system
- Your team enters the same data in several places.
- Some important steps are only recorded in chats.
- No existing app supports your business rules. Examples include banknote stock by denomination for money bouquets, or corporate gift prices that change with the order quantity.
